What a prosthodontist adds
- Planning from the end result. The final teeth are designed first, then the implants or bridges are planned to support them.
- The bite. Replacing several teeth changes how the jaws meet; prosthodontists are trained to get this right so the new teeth last.
- Appearance. Shade, shape and gum line on front teeth, implants and full arches.
- Complex materials and dentures. Zirconia arches, hybrid dentures, overdentures and cast partial dentures.

Questions patients ask us
Can a general dentist do implants?
Many general dentists with implant training place and restore single implants. Complex cases, such as several implants, full arches, bone grafting or front teeth, benefit from a prosthodontist planning the teeth and an implantologist placing the implants.
Is a prosthodontist more expensive?
Not necessarily for the same treatment. What changes the fee is the treatment itself, the materials and the lab. You get a written estimate after the examination either way.
Who should make my dentures?
Dentures are a core part of prosthodontic training. If you're getting your first full set, or your current dentures are loose or sore, a prosthodontist is a good choice.
Will I see both?
Often, yes. The general dentist keeps up your check-ups, cleaning and fillings; the prosthodontist plans and fits the replacement teeth.
