Do and don’t
Do
- Clean the denture over a basin of water or a folded towel.
- Use a soft brush and mild soap or denture cleaner.
- Keep the denture in water when it’s out, so it doesn’t dry and warp.
- Put it in by lining it up and pressing gently; don’t bite it into place.
Don’t
- Use toothpaste, bleach or boiling water on the denture.
- Bend the clips or adjust anything yourself.
- Sleep in it unless you’ve been advised to.
- Ignore a clip that has become loose; the denture can rock and rub.
Signs to call us

Questions patients ask us
How do I clean my implant overdenture?
Over a basin of water, so it doesn't break if dropped, brush it with a soft denture brush and mild soap or denture cleaner, inside and out, including the clips. Don't use regular toothpaste, which scratches it.
How do I clean the implants in my mouth?
Brush the attachments gently with a soft or single-tuft brush, all the way round where they meet the gum. A water flosser helps.
Should I sleep in my overdenture?
We recommend taking it out at night. It rests your gums, lets you clean everything properly and reduces fungal infection.
How often do the clips need changing?
Usually every one to two years. It's a short, routine visit.
Can I use denture tablets?
Yes, for soaking, as long as they're suitable for your type of attachment. Rinse the denture well afterwards. Avoid bleach and very hot water.
