Why we don’t quote a price online
Two people asking about “a root canal” can need very different treatment. A front tooth with one straight canal might be finished in a single visit. A lower molar with four curved canals and an old failed root canal might need a specialist and three visits. A single online price would be wrong for most people. Instead, we examine the tooth, take an X-ray and then give you the fee in writing before anything starts.
What decides the cost
Which tooth. Front teeth, premolars and molars have different numbers of canals. The more canals, and the harder they are to reach, the more time the treatment takes.
The shape of the canals. Curved, narrow or calcified (partly blocked) canals take longer and are more likely to need our endodontist.
First treatment or re-treatment. Re-doing a failed root canal means removing the old filling first, and costs more.
Infection. A tooth with an abscess or swelling may need an extra visit with medicine placed inside between appointments.
Rebuilding the tooth. After the root canal, the tooth needs a filling or core build-up, and most back teeth need a crown. These are separate items.
The crown material. Metal-ceramic, zirconia and E-max crowns differ in cost. See dental crowns for how they compare.
What our quote includes
- the examination and X-rays needed to diagnose and finish the tooth
- the root canal treatment, including the number of visits it’s expected to take
- the temporary filling between visits
- the core build-up or permanent filling
- the crown, listed separately with the material named, if you need one
- a check of the bite once the crown is fitted
If something changes during treatment, for example an extra canal is found, we tell you before going ahead.
A checklist for comparing quotes
When you compare RCT prices in Gurugram, ask each clinic:
- Is the fee for the root canal alone, or including the crown?
- Which crown material is quoted?
- Are X-rays, the build-up and follow-up visits included?
- Who will treat the tooth: a general dentist or an endodontist?
- Is a rubber dam used to keep the tooth clean during treatment?
- What happens, and what does it cost, if the tooth flares up or needs more visits?
Is it worth saving the tooth?
Most of the time, yes. A root canal and crown usually costs less than removing the tooth and replacing it with an implant, and nothing feels quite like your own tooth. But if the tooth is cracked through, badly broken down or loose from gum disease, spending money on a root canal can be a poor investment. We’ll say so, and explain the alternatives and what they cost.
Questions patients ask us
Why does a root canal on a molar cost more than a front tooth?
Front teeth usually have one canal. Molars have three or four, often curved and narrow, and are harder to reach. Treating them takes longer and needs more instruments, so the fee is higher.
What does "RCT with cap" cost include?
It should include the root canal itself and a crown, but check which crown material is quoted (metal-ceramic, zirconia or E-max), whether the core build-up under the crown is included, and how many X-rays. Two "RCT with cap" quotes can describe quite different treatment.
Is re-treatment of an old root canal more expensive?
Yes, usually. The old filling material has to be removed from the canals before they can be cleaned again, and these cases are often handled by an endodontist. It takes longer than a first root canal.
Why do RCT costs vary so much between clinics?
The differences come from who does it (general dentist or endodontist), whether a rubber dam is used, how many X-rays are taken, the instruments and materials, whether the build-up and crown are included, and whether follow-up visits are charged. Ask for an itemised quote.
Is root canal treatment cheaper than extraction and an implant?
A root canal and crown usually costs less than removing the tooth and replacing it with an implant, and you keep your own tooth. Extraction on its own is cheaper, but leaving a gap tends to cause problems later.
Does health insurance cover root canal treatment?
Most Indian health policies don't cover routine dental treatment such as RCT, though some cover it after an accident. Check your policy, and ask us for an itemised bill if you want to claim.
