Benefits
- No movement. It’s screwed to the implants, so it doesn’t lift when you bite or rock when you chew.
- Better chewing. Most people can return to a normal diet, including salads, roti and nuts, after healing.
- No palate cover. The upper arch doesn’t cover the roof of the mouth, so food tastes and feels more natural.
- No adhesive, nothing to take out at night.
- Clearer speech than with a loose denture.
- Less bone loss under the implants than under a regular denture.
Limits worth knowing
- Surgery to place four to six implants, under local anaesthetic.
- Cost is higher than a regular denture or an overdenture.
- Cleaning under the bridge needs a water flosser or special floss, every day.
- Maintenance visits, where the bridge is unscrewed, cleaned and the screws checked.
- Wear and repairs. Acrylic teeth can wear or chip; the commonest problem in All-on-4 research is fracture of the acrylic, which is usually repairable.

At Petal Smiles
Prosthodontist Dr. Adish Chaudhary designs hybrid dentures and plans the implants with our implantologist, often using a surgical guide. Many patients get a fixed temporary arch soon after surgery and the final teeth a few months later. See hybrid dentures and the implant cost guide.
Questions patients ask us
What is a hybrid denture?
A fixed full-arch replacement, usually acrylic or composite teeth on a metal framework, or zirconia, screwed onto implants. It's called hybrid because it looks like a denture but is fixed like a bridge.
Is a hybrid denture the same as All-on-4?
All-on-4 describes the implant layout, four implants with the back two angled. The hybrid denture is the set of teeth that sits on them. So All-on-4 usually carries a hybrid denture.
Hybrid denture vs overdenture, what is the difference?
A hybrid denture is fixed and only the dentist removes it. An overdenture clips onto implants and you remove it to clean it. Overdentures need fewer implants and cost less.
How long does a hybrid denture last?
The implants often last many years. The teeth on an acrylic hybrid wear and may need replacing or repairing after several years; zirconia lasts longer but costs more.
Can a hybrid denture be removed?
Only by your dentist, who unscrews it at maintenance visits to clean underneath and check the implants.
